⭐️ – OUR WEEK IN REVIEW – W/C 1st March 2021 – ⭐️
It’s been our final week working with our Lockdown bubble groups in our partner schools with all the children returning to school next week, and it’s certainly been a terrific one!
We simply cannot wait for the children to return next week, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves… we have this week to review first!
See below in a little bit more detail, what we’ve been up too and any updates from the PlaySport team.
The PlaySport team continue working with ‘bubble groups’ in our partner schools: Fox Hill, Sandy Lane, Meadow Vale, St Michaels’ and Great Hollands. The coaching team have started Basketball across the year groups in our schools with a few other sports thrown into the mix (different schools plans may vary!).
Fox Hill – It’s been week 1 of Basketball at Fox Hill, with Mr McBride focusing in particular on controlling the ball in tight areas.
The bubble groups have been working incredibly hard in 1v1 and 2v2 situations, with conditioned match-play to finish!
The children initially found Basketball rather tricky, as Basketball was missed last school year due to Covid-19, but the hard work and perseverance really pulled them through. By the end of each session, the children were all playing superbly, and their confidence was very evident!
Highlight of the Week – As mentioned above, the perseverance shown by the children in their first week of a new sport!
Sandy Lane – Mr Nower and Mr McDonnell had a bit of a different/off-topic week this week at Sandy Lane. Due to logistical reasons, the field was the only option for PE, which wouldn’t have worked too well with Basketball!!
Given the fact, it was the last week of the Lockdown bubbles and the field was the only option, it was Rounders week, which was a terrific way to end the period of having small bubble groups! Naturally, the children had lots of fun and earned their treat with wonderful behaviour and hard work!
Highlight of the Week – Generally how wonderful the children have been during this challenging period! Despite the small class sizes, Mr M and Mr N have enjoyed every minute, which is credit to the lovely children of Sandy Lane.
Meadow Vale – It’s been another cracker at Meadow Vale!
The children have been very busy with the variety of lunch time clubs on offer by the coaching team of Mr Sleet, Mr Dean and Mr Lambden. The football in particular was the highlight this week, with some tense games of numbers taking place!!
As for the PE, it’s been Basketball, with the children focusing on keeping the ball under control whilst under pressure from a defender. This learning focus has meant plenty of match-play scenarios for the children, which they have really thrived in – showing a terrific hunger to learn!
Highlight of the Week – The resilience shown from the Year 6 pupils in their session. The session was certainly a challenging one, but the children came through superbly!
Great Hollands – It’s been another belter of a week at Great Hollands, with Mr Robinson continuing the hard work and focus on their Cricket!
The learning focus this week was batting and in particular, the front foot drive. The children absolutely loved their batting, getting the opportunity to smash the ball, is something children and adults always love!!
Highlight of the Week – Seeing so many children enjoy their lunch times and continuing their work on Cricket – which clearly shows they want to keep improving their skills from their PE lessons.
St Michael’s Easthampstead – Mr Craske and Mr Stow have enjoyed their last week with their mini ‘Lockdown bubble groups’ at St Michael’s as the children continue working hard on their Basketball!
Like Meadow Vale, the children have been focusing on keeping the ball under control whilst under pressure from a defender. The children were put into small sided games, with conditions added each round for extra points.
As always, the children of St Michael’s worked incredibly hard and showed terrific progression in the session!
Highlight of the Week – The Year 4 group were 10/10 this week – simply faultless! Well done Year 4!
For any new readers, last half-term, PlaySport provided children with 12 online PE sessions via our YouTube channel. These PE sessions received positive feedback from teachers and students in the Berkshire area! The good news is (if you are a new reader), these lessons will always remain on our channel, so if your child(ren) at home are hungry for some PE, please go ahead and take part in any of our sessions
Our weekly lessons and recommended days for Lockdown Learning are: Ball Skills (Monday’s), Indoor Athletics (Wednesday’s) and Fitness Friday (Friday’s).
We hope you continue enjoying our sessions and please like and subscribe to our YouTube channel – https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfuUfMVE5kWoZb47WCSmpig
